Information Entrecard Droppers Should Know

>> Thursday, June 18, 2009

I have some information Entrecard Droppers should know. Using EC is a great tool to get visitors to come to your site. But one thing EC doesn't do is to get the visitors to stay and read your post. This can be a problem if most of your visitors are just staying a few seconds which is long enough to make a drop and then leave. If you want to know how long visitors are staying at your website, you need to find out the bounce rate of your site. You can get the bounce rate by using google analytics. I was surprized to find out my bounce rate is 91 %, which means 91% percent of my visitors are just staying long enough to make a EC drop, then leaving. That is why I made this post today. I'm hoping that when all you EC droppers read the title of this post you will stay long enough to read it and lower my bounce rate. I know now that Entrecard can bring you visitors, but if you have nothing interesting to make people stay, then they will just leave and continue dropping other sites. In the future I hope I can find more interesting topics for my visitors to read.

i have google analytics plugin installed in my wordpress blog and after having %90 plus percent of bounce rate for a few months, i'm glad that it's on 70 now. i think the best way to let the visitor read post is those meme, bec they really read it (at least most of them) ,then leave a comment.

Thanks for the suggestion.I didn't even know what a meme was till I read your comment and then googled it. That's how I found this site http://thedailymeme.com/.

If your content is to their liking they will stay longer or, at least, tightly focused so you will attract more of a certain type of visitor. Posting on other people's website also helps.

Bob, I referenced your post tonite in my blog, in support. I wrote about this problem before I removed BadGalsRadio.com from entrecard.

since removing it, my bounce rate is below 40%. the blogs that have entrecard widgets on them still have a ridiculously high bouncerate, because folks don't care enough to read a post or at least click a link; hopefully leave a comment.

I truly understand Bob, and I agree with you 100% which you can see on my blog this morning.

It is just courtesy to at least stop and read and comment if can add something to the dialogue. We are in a unique position. My husband also writes on our blog and we have divided blogs on which to comment. I try not to intrude on his because he has a blogger-relationship with certain people, as I do. But you know, sometimes I stop and comment because the topic just grabs me. Or there are times when I know he can to relate to a post and comment. It's difficult to comment daily for most of us due to jobs, responsibilities, etc. But geez, we should be encouraging one another. Harrison is Right, yes he is and we think he's great. His advice was also good. Post on other people's blogs and you will find they will return to you and do the same. Oh yes, here here, RE!

I read and dropped ec, sometimes leave a comment if I want to say something.Or something interesting caught my attention.Maybe others too.

It's annoying because, I need comment to keep blogging. I have a month of content ready, but I need to make new stuff based on my visitor's needs, which they don't tell me. Do you think Entrecard could make a system to pay people for comments left.

Harrison, I tried to leave a comment on your post about Lettermen's joke about Palin, but there was no submit button.

Thanks for the tips about this. I'm still trying to figure out EC and how this works, so tips like this are appreciated.

sometimes when all your content is visible on your front page, you'll really get a high bounce rate...and yes entrecard may contribute to it since bounce rate is the percentage of your visitors leaving from the page they entered your site without visiting the rest of your site...if you have all your content on your front page, try checking your visitors average time on site, you'll know if most of them is reading your content...to lower your bounce rate, you may try putting a "read more" link on your posts to force your visitors visiting another page... :)

Bob, don't know if something is wrong on my site but it looks okay tried it on different browsers.

One thing with blogs that I've learned is if you write about a whole bunch of unrelated things it can be tough to get or keep readers because the topics change so much.

Depends what you want out of your blog. I'm sure you track your site on Google Analytics. What you do is check out you referring sites list and visit those pages and comment on it. After a while you will get traffic back. Also submit your RSS feed to as many places as possible. It's a lot of work but you'll get comments.

This is true. The ec system was never really about reading and reviewing. They did try with the Sezwho comment system..which did not seem to work...probably because they had so many rules. In my experience if you leave a comment most Bloggers will reciprocate. For the ones that have no intention in leaving a comment...nothing will work. So we pay attention the those who do and appreciate them.

I was thinking about entrecard but now after reading this I am not sure.I use one of those chat boxes on one of my blogs and the bounce rate is very high most of the people ask me to link to them but there are a few problems number one is their blogs are not in english.Google can not tell if I speak 20 languages.Secondly when I visit them they have so much java on their blogs it drives my computer crazy.

You help me understand what is bounce rate, I check my google analytic which show much better now than before, my 90% bounce rate down to 50-75%.
That's enough good!, thanks for the tip bob.

I read posts if something catches my eye.. I only do my drops about once a week. I actually came here through your wife's blog.

I think you both sound like a great couple.

I figure no content is going to make everyone happy. Yet, the more eyeballs in front of my blog, the more people will stay and read. So removing Entrecard to lower bounce rate seems counterproductive to me.

We blog for fun and not for money so that may make a difference. All I can say is that we have found some wonderful blogs (like this) and made some terrific friends through Entrecard. We will stay but each blogger must determine what is best for them.

So come on by, and it would be great if something caught your eye and you left a comment.

Good post. You know, one of the main reasons I have such a hard time hitting 300 drops consistently is that I I use the Firefox toolbar to surf all random EC sites, and I'll find some new and interesting site and I'll want to start reading and commenting. This slows me down and I miss the 300 mark, lol!

I can deal with the hit and run droppers... I just wish they'd click on more of my site ads... :)
